A tire, a few wood blocks, and a city street median became the ingredients for a suspicious fire in Lone Tree, and police are now trying to identify the person who allegedly started it. The unusual blaze comes as the city remains under heightened fire restrictions due to hot, dry, and windy conditions.
According to FOX31 Denver, Lone Tree police are searching for a suspect who appeared to build the fire on the median using a tire and wood blocks. Police have not publicly identified the person or announced a motive.
The Fire Comes During Lone Tree’s Stage 2 Restrictions
The City of Lone Tree enacted Stage 2 fire restrictions on July 2 and said they would remain in effect until further notice. The rules prohibit open burning of any kind, along with personal fireworks, campfires and certain outdoor recreational fires, according to the City of Lone Tree.
The city said the restrictions were prompted by unusually hot, dry and windy conditions that have elevated fire danger across Colorado. A violation of the personal-fireworks ban can bring a fine of up to $2,650 and/or up to one year in jail, though police have not announced any charges in connection with the tire fire.
Police Ask Anyone With Information To Speak Up
Anyone who recognizes the suspect or has information about the fire can contact the Lone Tree Police Department’s crime tip line at 720-509-1160. The department also lists 303-799-0533 for non-emergency calls and says residents should call 911 for emergencies, according to the Lone Tree Police Department.
