Drama Club, a moody new cocktail spot from the Logan Square-based Scofflaw Group, quietly flipped on the lights Wednesday at 819 N. California Ave. in Humboldt Park. The storefront had been empty for roughly a decade, but the space, built in 2016, now centers on tequila- and mezcal-forward drinks and late-night music. It is the first tenant in the long-vacant building and adds a fresh late-night option to the neighborhood’s commercial strip.
According to Block Club Chicago, the Scofflaw Group spent about a year reworking the interior, bringing in designer Siren Betty to lean into a theatrical vibe. The team reoriented the 2016-built shell for DJs and a compact cocktail counter, with a layout that clearly puts the bar at center stage while still carving out space for weekend music.
From Logan Square To Humboldt Park
The crew behind Drama Club is best known for Logan Square staples Scofflaw, The Moonlighter, The Heavy Feather and Slippery Slope. Those neighborhood fixtures helped the group build a reputation for approachable cocktails and buzzy patios, according to Eater Chicago. Bringing that formula west into Humboldt Park marks a deliberate extension of the group’s footprint.
What To Expect
Drama Club leans hard into agave. The menu focuses on tequila and mezcal cocktails, with drinks clocking in around $10 to $12. Hours are listed as 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Thursday through Sunday, with a 3 a.m. close on Saturdays, per Block Club Chicago. “We wanted to create a lively, affordable cocktail concept but also wanted it to have some grandeur,” co-owner Danny Shapiro told the outlet.
A New Nightlife Node
After nearly ten years of sitting empty, the activated storefront now gives Humboldt Park’s commercial strip a fresh late-night option and helps fill a gap in the neighborhood’s evening choices. The décor and DJ-ready setup are designed to keep the room feeling both intimate and energetic for local crowds. With a tight cocktail list and accessible pricing, Drama Club aims to work just as well for a casual weeknight drink as it does for a higher-energy weekend stop.
