Boston police say a man was shot and killed inside an Allston apartment building Friday night. Officers arrived to find an adult suffering from gunshot wounds, and Boston EMS rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
According to a Boston Police spokesman, officers were responding to a report of a person shot at an apartment complex at 20 Rugg Road in Allston. The victim was taken to a local hospital and later pronounced dead. Police said no arrests have been made, and the victim's identity is being withheld pending an autopsy, formal identification and family notification, as reported by WCVB.
Homicide detectives lead the probe
Boston Police's Homicide Unit has taken charge of the investigation, according to the Boston Police Homicide Unit. Detectives are canvassing the building, checking available surveillance and interviewing witnesses as they work to piece together a timeline of what happened inside the Rugg Road complex.
City context
The Allston killing is the latest in a stretch of summer gun incidents across Boston, following a downtown shooting near Boston Common earlier this month that sent a man to the hospital. City officials and neighborhood groups have been pushing for expanded violence‑prevention resources as detectives juggle multiple investigations across neighborhoods.
How to help investigators
Anyone with information about the Allston shooting is asked to contact the Boston Police Homicide Unit at 617-343-4470 or submit anonymous tips through CrimeStoppers at 1-800-494-TIPS or via the department's CrimeStoppers page, the Boston Police Department says. Detectives say they will continue to process evidence and canvass for witnesses as the investigation moves forward.
