Memphis gets one more relatively comfortable day before the hammer comes down.
Thursday morning starts off mild and mostly cloudy, with temperatures in the mid‑70s (around 75°F). As the day wears on, clouds should thin out, giving way to mostly sunny skies this afternoon, with a high near 88°F and a northeast breeze around 10 mph.
Tonight stays fairly quiet: expect partly cloudy skies, a low near 71°F, and east‑northeast winds around 5 to 10 mph.
By Friday, the pattern starts to shift. A slight chance of afternoon showers and isolated thunderstorms returns, and storm coverage is expected to increase into Saturday. A strong subtropical ridge will begin building late Sunday, pushing highs into the upper 90s and then into the low 100s early next week, with a peak near 101°F and apparent temperatures well over 100°F, according to the National Weather Service Memphis.
Weekend Heat Spike
Scattered storms from Friday afternoon through Saturday could bring brief heavy downpours and some localized gusty winds. Saturday’s storms, in particular, may wring out anywhere from a few tenths to about a half‑inch of rain in some neighborhoods.
The bigger headline is the heat. Highs are expected to reach near 97°F on Sunday, then climb toward 99 to 101°F by Monday and Tuesday. Overnight lows will not offer much relief, staying stuck in the upper 70s.

The city and partner agencies have opened an emergency cooling center at the Hospitality Hub downtown, with free MATA pickups and services for people who need a break from the heat. The Hub campus is at 590 Washington Ave, and riders can request pickup through MATA; organizers recommend checking the hours before you go.
If you plan to be outside this weekend, build in frequent water breaks, skip strenuous activity during the midafternoon peak, and keep an eye on older neighbors and pets who might struggle in the extreme heat.
