Memphis is waking up clear and around 75 degrees on Friday, but the hot, humid afternoon could bring a round of showers and thunderstorms. Highs should reach about 93 degrees before easing toward 90 later in the day, with heat-index values as high as 102.
Storm Chances Rise After 11 a.m.
Mostly sunny skies will turn more unsettled after 11 a.m., with a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms and the best odds from midafternoon into early evening. Memphis is not included in the listed Heat Advisory, which covers portions of east Arkansas and northwest Mississippi, but the heat will still be uncomfortable.
Friday night keeps the storm window open, with a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms before activity tapers to a slight chance by early Saturday. Rainfall could total a quarter to half an inch in spots, and the National Weather Service Memphis says a few storms could bring damaging winds and heavy rain.
Cooler Weekend Arrives
Saturday should be a noticeable reset, with a slight chance of rain before 8 a.m., followed by mostly sunny skies, a high near 88 and west winds of 10 to 15 mph. Saturday night falls to about 72 degrees under partly cloudy skies.
Sunday looks cooler still, with a high near 83 and only a slight afternoon storm chance. Monday warms to 87, Tuesday to 91, and summer heat rebuilds by Wednesday and Thursday, when highs are expected near 93 and 95.

Front-load outdoor errands Friday if possible, carry water, and head indoors if thunder rolls in. The biggest weather shift comes after the front passes: a steamy Friday gives way to a much more comfortable Sunday before the heat returns next week.
