MIAMI GARDENS — A 35-year-old woman is now behind bars after turning herself in to Miami Gardens police on Tuesday, months after a Feb. 22 shooting on a residential block that sent another woman to the hospital, authorities said. The early-morning gunfire erupted on the 100 block of Northwest 202nd Terrace, and the wounded woman was later driven to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital for treatment. Detectives say they are still working the case and have not released a motive.
Suspect Turns Herself In, Police Say
Milagros De La Caridad Navarro surrendered Tuesday and was booked after detectives tied her to the pre-dawn attack, as reported by Local 10. An arrest report reviewed by the station states officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Northwest 202nd Terrace just after 1 a.m. on Feb. 22, and Miami Gardens police were notified about 30 minutes later when a gunshot victim arrived at HCA Florida Aventura Hospital. According to detectives cited by the station, the investigation drew on witness interviews, photo lineups and neighbor surveillance video that reportedly shows Navarro firing multiple shots in the victim's direction.
Charges And Custody
Jail records show Navarro is facing two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of aggravated battery with a weapon causing great bodily harm, and she is being held without bond at the county's Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Per the Miami-Dade Corrections & Rehabilitation Department, Turner Guilford Knight serves as the county's primary intake facility and maintains custody records and an inmate search for public information on detention status. The city prosecutor's office will decide in the coming days whether to file formal charges.
