Miami will host the Democratic Mayors Association’s 2027 summit next spring, bringing city leaders from around the country to South Florida for three days of policy talk, political networking and local-government shop talk.
The summit is scheduled for April 14-16, 2027, and will be hosted by Mayor Eileen Higgins, according to a Democratic Mayors Association announcement. Organizers said the gathering will focus on sharing municipal solutions and strategies, with additional details expected in the coming weeks.
Miami’s New Mayor Gets A National Stage
The announcement gives Higgins a prominent platform less than two years after she became Miami’s first woman mayor and the city’s first Democratic mayor in nearly three decades. She also serves as a vice president on the DMA’s 2026-2027 executive board, according to the organization’s board announcement.
Higgins’ rise followed an upset December 2025 runoff victory that reshaped Miami politics. The City of Miami has separately described Higgins as its first woman mayor, while city records show her administration taking office as the city prepares for a new political chapter.
The DMA describes itself as the national organization representing Democratic mayors in cities with populations of at least 30,000. In Miami, the summit will connect that national network to a city where Higgins campaigned heavily on affordability, housing costs, jobs and economic opportunity—issues likely to remain central to the gathering, even though the detailed agenda has not yet been released.
