A Minneapolis driver allegedly tried to hit a construction worker before fleeing through city streets, including sidewalks and one-way roads in the wrong direction. The dangerous run ended when a Hennepin County Violent Offender Task Force vehicle disabled the car, and detectives took the driver into custody.
The incident unfolded Thursday during a focused enforcement detail involving multiple agencies, according to a Facebook post from the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office. An MPD officer reportedly witnessed the vehicle attempt to strike a construction worker near 33rd Street and Dupont Avenue and tried to stop it.
Driver Was Evaluated Before Being Booked Into Jail
The task force used a PIT maneuver to disable the vehicle, but the driver allegedly refused commands to exit and pulled out a knife. Officers then used multiple 40 mm less-lethal rounds to break a vehicle window before detectives safely took the driver into custody.
The driver was checked by paramedics and taken by ambulance to a hospital for evaluation, according to the sheriff's office. No one was injured during the incident, and the driver was later booked into jail.
Focused Detail Also Recovered Guns And Stolen Vehicles
The broader enforcement operation recovered two illegally possessed firearms and seven stolen vehicles, while several people were arrested on outstanding warrants. The participating agencies included the Minneapolis Police Department, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Metro Transit Police Department and other law enforcement partners.
The sheriff's office did not identify the driver or announce potential charges in its post. Additional details could emerge as investigators review the vehicle incident and the evidence recovered during the enforcement detail.
