A quiet stretch near Mt. Tabor Park turned into a crime scene Wednesday night after a woman was shot inside a Southeast Portland home and rushed to the hospital, according to police. The shooting was reported around 9 p.m. in the 2300 block of Southeast 70th Street, north of Division Street. Officers from the Portland Police Bureau’s East Precinct found the woman seriously injured inside the residence, and emergency personnel said her initial prognosis was favorable. A man was detained at the scene while investigators moved in to collect evidence and speak with witnesses.
Police Response and Ongoing Investigation
According to KATU, East Precinct officers arrived shortly after the 9 p.m. call and quickly located the injured woman inside the home. Sgt. Kevin Allen told the station that a man at the residence was detained as part of the investigation, and detectives from the bureau’s Special Victims Unit were brought in to take over the case. Investigators remained at the house late into Wednesday night, processing the scene and knocking on doors in the neighborhood to interview potential witnesses, KATU reported.
How the Shooting Fits Into Citywide Trends
City-run Ceasefire data show Portland had recorded 197 shooting incidents through May 2026, including 50 incidents that resulted in injuries or deaths, according to the Portland Ceasefire report. The program notes that the 12-month rolling average of injury and fatal shootings is down about 21 percent. Even with that decline, the May report underscores that gunfire is not spread evenly across the city, with many shootings clustered in specific neighborhoods. City officials say those numbers help explain why incidents inside homes are treated both as criminal investigations and as part of a broader public-health response.
What Police Are Asking From the Public
Police have not released the identity of the man who was detained or said whether he will face any charges, according to KATU. Investigators are asking anyone with information about what happened to contact the Portland Police Bureau’s non-emergency line at 503-823-3333 or reach out through the bureau’s contact page at Portland Police. Hoodline will update this article as officials release more details.
