A traffic stop on Nolensville Pike quickly turned into a short foot chase and an arrest in the case of a shooting that wounded a man at an Antioch smoke shop. Police have charged 19-year-old Abenzer Bekele with attempted homicide and two additional offenses tied to the July 13 incident.
The shooting began as an argument that turned physical at Huff N Puff Smoke Shop, according to WSMV. Police said one man was wounded, and investigators later developed Bekele as a suspect.
Detectives located Bekele and tried to stop his vehicle in the 5400 block of Nolensville Pike, officials said. Spike strips were deployed, but Bekele ran from the car before he was apprehended. Investigators recovered a handgun, marijuana and 25 boxes of marijuana vapes.
Bekele Had Previously Been Released On Bond
Bekele is charged with attempted homicide, reckless endangerment and possession of a gun during the commission of a felony, WSMV reported. Police also said he had been released on a $2,500 bond following a Jan. 3 arrest for felony marijuana possession.
The charges are allegations, and Bekele is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. No additional details about the wounded man’s condition or the cause of the argument were immediately available.
