Taylorsville has a fresh spot for game day. On Wednesday, city officials and ChamberWest representatives cut the ribbon on The Break Bar and Grill, a remodeled sports-bar-style restaurant at 5418 S. 1900 West that comes loaded with wall-to-wall TVs, a comfort-food-heavy menu, and plenty of games to keep crowds hanging around. The city shared photos of the ceremony and the revamped interior set up for big groups.
City and ChamberWest mark the opening
According to the city, officials staged a ceremonial ribbon-cutting on June 10 to officially welcome The Break to the neighborhood. In a news release, Mayor Kristie Overson gave the menu a shout-out, while managers Blade Brown and Jessica Blakeman said they are eager to host community events at the restaurant, per Taylorsville City.
Food, TVs and nightly games
The Break is leaning hard into the watch-party vibe. The kitchen lineup includes barbecue burnt-end nachos, pickle fries, burgers, tacos, wings and mac-and-cheese, paired with tournament-style entertainment like Breaking Bingo, free-to-play Texas Hold'em, beer pong and scheduled poker tournaments. The city highlighted those offerings, along with shots of the remodeled dining room and event boards, in a recent post on Facebook.
Permits and neighborhood conditions
Getting The Break into the 7,306-square-foot building took more than a simple remodel. The business needed a conditional use permit to run a bar and extend hours within 250 feet of nearby homes, and the planning commission attached conditions that limit outdoor activity, increase trash pickup and require a six-month administrative review. Meeting minutes show managers responding to concerns about parking, trash and late-night loitering and spell out the allowed operating hours and other mitigation steps, according to the Taylorsville Planning Commission.
Hours, reservations and licensing
The Break is listed as open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m., and on weekends from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. The city also provides a reservation number for private events, per Taylorsville City. State licensing documents and commission materials show the business applied for a bar-establishment license and came up during regulatory hearings this spring, according to the Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services.
What locals can expect
Managers told the commission that The Break concept already runs at multiple locations around the valley and that this spot will emphasize food service over live music, pointing to game nights and group gatherings rather than loud performances. City staff said the operating conditions and scheduled administrative review are designed to address any future concerns from nearby residents, according to the Taylorsville Planning Commission.
