Healthcare workers with SEIU Local 1107 took their contract fight to the curb outside Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas on Tuesday, rallying to press HCA Healthcare over what they describe as stalled negotiations. Lined up on the sidewalk, they held signs calling for better pay, safer staffing and stronger workplace protections while talks with management remained stuck. Union leaders framed the action as part of a broader push to bring public pressure to the bargaining table.
Six Months Of Talks, Still No Deal
According to FOX5, SEIU Local 1107 told supporters the negotiations with HCA have stretched on for six months, with members rallying to jump-start progress. The station’s video shows workers chanting outside the hospital entrance while union representatives detail their priorities, including wage increases and stronger staffing safeguards.
First Contract Win, But Only For One Group
Earlier this summer, the union marked a separate milestone. SEIU said professionals at Sunrise voted overwhelmingly to ratify their first-ever union contract. KTNV reported that nearly 300 clinical professionals, including physical therapists, pharmacists and social workers, approved an agreement that the station said features average raises of more than 12% over three years, while SEIU’s site highlighted a 98% ratification vote for that unit.
Staffing Fights Stretch Beyond One Unit
Union leaders say that recent deal covers only one bargaining unit and that other job classifications at Sunrise remain in active negotiations or still lack finalized terms. They argue the unresolved issues mirror a broader pattern of staffing and retention battles at HCA-owned hospitals in the region. Coverage in the Review-Journal and in Nevada Current has pointed to understaffing and turnover as recurring flashpoints in those disputes.
Labor Board Case Runs Alongside Bargaining
While workers rally outside, a formal representation case tied to Sunrise and SEIU Local 1107 has been filed with the National Labor Relations Board, dating back to May. The NLRB docket entry indicates that at least part of the dispute has entered official labor-relations channels, with the listing documenting the case and related filings that accompany representation and bargaining work.
Pressure Campaign Continues As Talks Drag On
Union organizers describe this week’s rally as one step in a sustained pressure campaign that will continue while negotiators keep meeting over staffing and pay protections. SEIU member updates underline plans for continued public actions. Hospital spokespeople, for their part, have previously said the employer bargained in good faith when certain units reached and ratified contracts, KTNV reported.
As bargaining stretches on, union members say they intend to keep pressing until negotiators secure commitments they argue are necessary to stabilize staffing and safeguard patient care, according to statements on SEIU’s website.
