A Peoria man wanted in connection with a pre-dawn crash that killed a teenager on the city’s East Bluff is now behind bars in St. Louis County. Authorities say 36-year-old Shamarr A. Greenlee was arrested Friday night and is being held in the St. Louis County Jail while he waits to be extradited back to Peoria.
According to the Peoria Police Department, officers tried to pull over a vehicle at about 1:18 a.m. Thursday near Jefferson Street and Abington Street. After briefly making contact with the driver at Abington and Monroe, the car allegedly took off at a high rate of speed. Roughly a minute later, officers came upon a two-vehicle collision near North Maryland Street and East McClure Avenue and confirmed that one of the cars involved matched the vehicle that had just fled the stop.
Victim Identified; Others Treated
The passenger who died following the crash was identified by the Peoria County coroner as 17-year-old Isis Horn, according to the Peoria Journal Star. The driver of that vehicle, an 18-year-old man, along with one person from the suspect vehicle, were taken to local hospitals with injuries described as non-life-threatening, the outlet reported.
Arrest And Charges
On Friday, the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office obtained a warrant charging Greenlee with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. Later that night, the Woodson Terrace Police Department in St. Louis notified Peoria authorities around 10 p.m. that Greenlee had been taken into custody. He is being held in the St. Louis County Jail and is awaiting extradition to Peoria, according to the Peoria Police Department.
