The high is expected to reach 114 degrees this afternoon, with another dangerous stretch ahead through the weekend. An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect across the metro area through Monday evening.
Friday Starts Hot And Gets Worse
The National Weather Service in Phoenix forecasts sunny skies and a high near 114 degrees Friday, followed by 115 degrees Saturday, 114 Sunday and 113 Monday. Afternoon temperatures across the lower deserts could reach 112 to 117 degrees, putting the region at major to extreme heat risk. Overnight lows will stay unusually high, ranging from about 91 to 93 degrees and offering very little relief.
Storm Chances Hold Off Until Next Week
Dry air will keep rain and thunderstorms largely away from Phoenix through Monday, with precipitation chances near zero to 5%. A slight chance of storms arrives after 5 p.m. Tuesday, while Wednesday brings a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms and a high near 108 degrees. Thursday remains mostly sunny, with another slight storm chance late in the day.
Heat Safety Takes Priority
Residents should avoid strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day, take frequent breaks in air conditioning or shade, and drink plenty of water. Heat stroke is an emergency; anyone showing signs of it should be moved to a cool place while someone calls 911. Maricopa County advises residents who need cooling, water or transportation assistance to call 2-1-1 and ask about nearby heat-relief sites.
