Pig-Sty BBQ was supposed to serve its last brisket Sunday. Instead, the Boynton Beach favorite announced a last-minute rescue that will keep its smokers running — just at a new home with live music, cocktails and a waterfront-leaning vibe.
The barbecue restaurant is scheduled to reopen August 26 inside The Bungalow Bar & Grill, bringing its full menu and four-person staff to the new setup, according to CBS12. Co-owner Tom Rhodemyre called the arrangement a “permanent pop-up,” while his wife and co-owner, Nicole Lucero, will remain part of the operation.
The reprieve follows a closure announcement that blamed a rough business climate, nearby road and parking-lot construction, and sharply higher meat costs. Earlier this month, WPBF 25 reported that access problems around Boynton Beach Boulevard had made it harder for customers and delivery drivers to reach the restaurant, even as regulars continued showing up.
A Barbecue Joint Meets A Live-Music Hangout
The Bungalow is a Key West-themed bar and grill near the Intracoastal Waterway, with live bands scheduled on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, according to The Bungalow’s site. The partnership gives Pig-Sty something it lacked at its old storefront: access to a full liquor operation, a built-in nightlife audience and a space already designed for lingering over food and drinks.
The financial arrangement is also a major shift. Rhodemyre told CBS12 that Pig-Sty will avoid rent and insurance costs, use its own smoker and kitchen equipment, and split revenue with The Bungalow instead. The Bungalow will swap out its current fried-seafood-and-burger menu for Pig-Sty’s brisket, ribs, sausage and sides, with a few coastal additions such as smoked fish dip and a blackened mahi-mahi sandwich.
Some familiar Pig-Sty traditions are expected to survive the move, including Friday pastrami and Saturday dinosaur ribs, although the restaurant plans to serve portions in baskets rather than its old smoked-meat platters. For Boynton Beach barbecue fans, the big takeaway is simpler: the restaurant’s original address is closing, but the brisket is not going quietly.
