A massive warehouse fire ripped through an industrial block in Pompano Beach on Saturday evening, sending thick, inky smoke drifting over nearby neighborhoods and blotting out parts of the early evening sky. Engines and ladder trucks stayed on scene for hours as crews hit the flames from multiple angles and worked to keep nearby businesses and streets clear. Authorities have not reported any injuries and say the scene stayed under control while investigators began examining the charred structure.
Wesley Vincent, who was working next door at a dealership, told Local 10 he first spotted the flames around 6 p.m. and initially assumed it was just a car fire. That changed fast. “It was worse than this. It was way worse. You couldn’t even stand over there,” Vincent said, as cellphone video shared with the station showed orange flames pouring from the warehouse doorway. He said someone used a forklift to force open the building and a bystander grabbed a hose to spray the blaze before firefighters arrived.

The City of Pompano Beach Fire Prevention Bureau is responsible for enforcing fire and life safety codes and for coordinating origin and cause investigations for structure fires in the city. Under state rules outlined by the Florida Senate, the Division of State Fire Marshal can step in on complex cases, lead or assist with investigations, subpoena witnesses and collect physical evidence when needed. Large warehouse fires typically have to cool down and be stabilized before investigators can safely conduct a detailed origin and cause analysis.
What crews and witnesses saw
Cellphone video from the scene captured bright flames punching through an entrance and thick black smoke rolling into the sky as a crowd watched from outside the warehouse at 120 NW 15th St, according to Local 10. The station reported that firefighters from Pompano Beach, Coconut Creek, Broward Sheriff’s Fire Rescue and Fort Lauderdale all responded, while neighbors and workers recorded the action from a safe distance. Officials had not released any information on what sparked the blaze.
Smoke risks for neighbors
Dense, dark smoke from burning warehouse materials can carry fine particulate matter and toxic gases that pose health risks for children, older adults and people with heart or lung conditions. Federal guidance from the Environmental Protection Agency advises staying indoors with windows closed, using an HVAC system on recirculate when possible and wearing an N95 respirator if you have to go outside in heavy smoke.
