San José police are investigating a pre-dawn shooting that left one man dead and two others wounded early Sunday, after gunfire erupted just before 3 AM and shut down nearby streets while homicide detectives moved in.
According to a post on X from San José Police Media Relations, officers were called at approximately 2:55 AM for reports of gunfire in the area of 7th Street and Leo Avenue. They found two adult men, each with at least one gunshot wound. One man died at the scene. The second was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition and was later stabilized.

Not long after, officers spotted a vehicle speeding near 11th Street and Humboldt. Police conducted a traffic stop and discovered a third adult man inside with at least one gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital with injuries described as not life-threatening.

The San José Police Department’s Homicide Unit responded to the shooting scene and is leading the case, while patrol officers canvassed the surrounding blocks for witnesses and surveillance footage. Investigators have not yet released the names of the victims or any suspected motive, and say they are still processing evidence and interviewing witnesses.
