An early morning commute through northwest Miami-Dade turned into a nightmare scene Wednesday after a car crashed, burst into flames and left one man dead along Northwest 103rd Street. The fiery wreck shut down the busy corridor for hours as crews sifted through debris and investigators began piecing together what went wrong. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s name.
Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide detectives said the single-vehicle crash happened just after 5:30 a.m. at Northwest 103rd Street and Northwest 17th Avenue in the Westview neighborhood, according to Local 10. Deputies arrived to find the car fully engulfed in flames. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue put out the fire, but the driver, who was alone in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. All lanes of Northwest 103rd Street from Northwest 17th Avenue to Northwest 21st Avenue were closed while authorities worked the crash.
Sky 10 video later showed yellow crime-scene tape encircling the charred wreckage and a heavily damaged vehicle covered with a tarp as detectives documented the site with photographs and measurements. Investigators did not immediately say what might have caused the crash, and no arrests were reported. The closure continued to slow traffic in the surrounding area well into the morning.
Investigators Seek Witnesses
Traffic Homicide detectives have taken over the case and are asking anyone who saw the crash or captured it on video to contact investigators, Local 10 reported. Officials said it could take weeks to get results from vehicle forensics and toxicology tests, and they urged residents with surveillance or doorbell camera footage to preserve it for the investigation.
