Kokopelli Social Bar has quietly rolled into Downtown Westminster, a shipping-container pop-up run by Kokopelli Beer Co. that sits beside the temporary dog park at 90th Avenue and Fenton Street. The outdoor, dog-friendly hangout pairs the brewery’s taps with pizza, snacks, and nonalcoholic "dirty sodas," and it has a formal grand opening on the books for next week. The set-up is part neighborhood activation, part family-friendly beer garden, and it will be open on the Fourth of July with special hours.
As reported by The Denver Gazette, Kokopelli Social Bar sits next to the temporary dog park and will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 4. The outlet also notes that Kokopelli will hold an official grand opening on July 10 at 5:30 p.m. and that the venture grew out of a partnership announced with city officials last year; a public hearing on the bar's liquor license application appears in a City of Westminster notice.
What’s on Tap and on the Menu
According to Kokopelli Beer Co., the brewery operates 30 taps overall, with at least 27 house-made brews that the Social Bar will pour. The Downtown Westminster announcement says the container bar will serve craft beer, cocktails, "dirty sodas," pizza, pretzels, and snacks in a casual, open-air setting.
Why the City Backed It
City leaders have been trying to activate downtown since the Westminster Mall closed, and the container bar is pitched as an inexpensive way to draw visitors to the area. As reported by Colorado Politics, Westminster announced the partnership with Kokopelli last year as part of broader plans to populate the new downtown with parks, restaurants, and pop-up attractions. City planning pages also note that the dog park is temporary and is expected to relocate to a central park under construction, per the City of Westminster.
Hours, Holidays and the Grand Opening
Per The Denver Gazette, Kokopelli Social Bar's hours are Thursdays and Fridays, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturdays noon to 9 p.m., and Sundays 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.; the bar will open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 4 and hold a ribbon-cutting on July 10 at 5:30 p.m. The Downtown Westminster announcement notes hours may be adjusted for demand, so visitors should expect some variation early in the season.
The brewery points out on its site that it is the state's first solely female-owned brewpub, a distinction the owners highlight as they expand into downtown. For now, the container offers a casual place for dog owners and neighbors to converge, and Kokopelli’s calendar is set to feature guest taps and special events as the summer unfolds.
