The City of San Diego has kicked off a two-year push to overhaul the Rancho Bernardo Community Plan, with staff and neighbors already lining up which fixes they want to see on the ground while the bigger policy work plays out.

According to the City of San Diego, the update is broken into four public phases: Community Ideas, Community Validation, Draft Plan and Adoption. Those stages are scheduled to run from summer 2026 through a final adoption phase in 2028. Regional money helped get the effort moving. Planning board adds sidewalks, photoluminescent striping
At its July 16 meeting, the Rancho Bernardo Community Planning Board started building an early wish list of concrete improvements, literally. The board called for new sidewalks and a storm drain fix on Pomerado Road, and backed a pilot "luminous road lines" project that would lay down photoluminescent paint to mark bike lanes, centerlines and crosswalks along poorly lit stretches. Board members voted to add a median-narrowing project on Rancho Bernardo Road, between Bernardo Center Drive and Bernardo Oaks Road, to the same wish list.
