A Riverdale man is facing a felony gun charge after police say a road-rage confrontation on I-57 turned into a shot fired at another vehicle, with investigators identifying and arresting a suspect within days.
The case resurfaced after the July 29 Facebook post from Illinois State Police, although the arrest itself occurred in early June. The suspect, 29-year-old Emmanuel C. Mosley, was taken into custody after an investigation into the expressway shooting.
What Happened On I-57
According to the Illinois State Police, troopers responded around 1:56 p.m. May 28 to a report of an expressway shooting on northbound I-57 near 111th Street in Chicago. Police said someone in another vehicle fired at the victim's vehicle, but the victim was not injured.
Investigators later identified Mosley, of Riverdale, as the alleged shooter and located him on June 3. Fox 32 Chicago reported that the incident was treated as a road-rage encounter and that Mosley was arrested following the investigation.
Felony Charge Filed In Cook County
State police said the case was presented to the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, which charged Mosley with one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm, a Class 1 felony. ISP said he remained in custody pending his first court appearance, and its release provided no further information about the case.
The charge is an allegation, not a conviction, and Mosley is presumed innocent unless prosecutors prove the case in court. The Illinois State Police road-rage campaign advises drivers who believe they are being followed or harassed to call 911 or drive to the nearest police department rather than escalating the confrontation.
