Local coverage identifies the yacht as The Determination and the tow operator as Steel Towing, placing the impact near the Riverwalk and the pump station at 100 N. New River Drive. Charter listings say Determination is a Westport 112 built in 2017 with a shallow draft, per YachtCharterFleet.

The Fort Lauderdale municipal code states, "All persons injuring or damaging the municipal docks or wharves ... shall immediately reimburse the city," a line that could leave the yacht’s owner or operator on the hook for repairs, per Municode.
