A normally uneventful Monday evening commute in Chevy Chase turned tense when a man was stabbed near Connecticut Avenue and Chevy Chase Parkway NW, leaving drivers stuck in traffic and neighbors on edge. Police say the victim was conscious when they arrived and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
What happened
Officers responded around 5:30 p.m. and found a man suffering from stab wounds. First responders confirmed he was conscious at the scene before transporting him to an area hospital, according to FOX 5 DC. Police sealed off roughly two blocks of Connecticut Avenue with yellow crime-scene tape, from Huntington Street to Jenifer Street, lining the corridor with cruisers and flashing lights while documenting nearby intersections and processing the area for evidence.
Neighbors react
Residents said the stabbing felt out of step with the typically calm vibe of the Chevy Chase neighborhood. "This is a pretty safe area; this [is] the first time it’s happened," one bystander told FOX 5 DC, adding to the sense of surprise as commuters passed an unusually heavy police presence along their usual route home.
