San Francisco is starting today with mild, clear conditions near 56 degrees, but the city will warm quickly under sunny skies. The afternoon high is expected to reach about 75 degrees before temperatures ease toward the low 70s later in the day.
Sunshine Gives Way To A Breezy Afternoon
Southwest winds will run 5 to 14 mph today, with gusts as high as 21 mph during the afternoon. Tomorrow night turns partly cloudy, with a low around 57 and west-southwest winds continuing into the evening.
Warm Weekend, Cooler Next Week
Tomorrow looks like the warmest day in the city’s forecast, with sunshine and a high near 78, followed by 77 next Sunday and 76 next Monday. Highs settle near 73 degrees from next Tuesday through next Thursday, while inland parts of the Bay Area remain much hotter, with temperatures in the 90s and low 100s and elevated fire-weather concerns.
Beachgoers Face Sneaker-Wave Risk
A Beach Hazards Statement remains in effect through tomorrow afternoon along Pacific Coast beaches. The National Weather Service San Francisco warns that long-period southerly swell could produce strong rip currents, sneaker waves and breaking waves up to 10 feet at some south- and southwest-facing beaches, including Ocean Beach and Pacifica.
Fog Returns Overnight
Coastal fog and low clouds are likely to return tonight and early tomorrow, then mix out later in the morning. Anyone heading to the shoreline should stay out of the water, avoid jetties, piers and rocks, and never turn their back on the ocean.
