She has talked about carrying a lot of anger, fear and frustration and says singing the new material has been incredibly cathartic. That blend of fury and release arrives Sunday at the Rady Shell at Jacobs Park, with Allison Russell joining the bill.

In a recent interview, McLachlan explained why these shows feel different and described performing as its own form of therapy, according to The San Diego Union-Tribune. She said that delivering the new songs live has helped her work through long-standing frustration and has sharpened how she presents the fresh material onstage.
‘Better Broken’: New Record, Sharper Edges
Better Broken, McLachlan’s first album of original songs since 2014, was produced with Tony Berg and Will Maclellan and arrived in September 2025, per Concord Records. Some tracks are pointedly political. She told The Guardian that “One in a Long Line” was written in part as a response to the rollback of reproductive rights, which helps explain the extra bite in her new lyrics.

McLachlan’s summer run includes a San Diego date at The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park, where the venue lists the show on its calendar with a 7 PM curtain time. Olivia Rodrigo told Good Morning America that McLachlan was the first person she called about the Daisy Chain Fields festival, where McLachlan is slated to appear later this summer.
