What started as a routine undercover drug buy in Scottsdale turned into a full-throttle chase, a SWAT standoff and a ceiling-collapse surrender, according to police and court records. Scottsdale Police arrested 31-year-old Andrew Lee Steele on July 7 after executing a search warrant at a north Phoenix home. He now faces multiple felony counts and is being held on a cash-only bond while the case moves through the courts.

The Sting And The Parking Lot Crash

Detectives with the Scottsdale Police Department Drug Enforcement Unit say the case began as a month-long undercover operation in which officers arranged to buy an "8-ball" of cocaine from a suspected seller. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, Steele allegedly accelerated toward an undercover detective in a Scottsdale parking lot, struck the back of an unmarked police vehicle and then took off. Officers estimated he hit speeds of about 100 mph before later crashing his BMW in Phoenix.

Barricade, Attic Fall And What Police Say They Found

Court documents filed with the county state that Steele initially barricaded himself inside a north Phoenix home. SWAT officers deployed gas, and authorities say he fell through the attic ceiling into his bedroom before surrendering. Police and the court record indicate that a subsequent search turned up four rifles, a pistol, a drug-sale ledger, digital scales and suspected prescription pills along with MDMA, Xanax and methamphetamine. Those details are reflected in official filings and docket entries.

Charges And Court Status

Steele is charged with aggravated assault on a first responder, fleeing from police, possession of weapons by a prohibited person and multiple counts of possessing dangerous and narcotic drugs for sale. He is being held on a $250,000 cash-only bond, according to FOX 10 Phoenix. The outlet also reported that Steele had been arrested the previous weekend by Tempe police on related drug and weapon charges but was released while prosecutors considered formal filings.

What Happens Next

The case will proceed through Maricopa County Superior Court, where filings, preliminary hearings and any defense motions will set the pace of the prosecution. Public dockets and upcoming hearing dates can be checked at the Maricopa County Superior Court docket, where court documents and scheduled events are posted.
