A grim discovery in a wooded West Price Hill area has launched a police investigation, with Cincinnati officials now trying to determine who the remains belonged to. The identification process could hinge on dental records and, if those do not produce a match, DNA testing.
The skeletal remains were found near the 1800 block of Minion Avenue, according to WLWT. Cincinnati police said the department is investigating and working with the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office to identify the person.
The coroner’s office says identification work begins with law enforcement and forensic staff, who may use fingerprints, dental records, medical documentation and distinctive physical features. Its public guidance describes the effort as an ongoing process focused on returning unidentified people to their families.
In this case, police told WLWT that dental records will be checked first. If those records do not produce a match, investigators said they will turn to DNA.
Price Hill Has Seen Similar Identification Cases
The investigation echoes an earlier case on Cincinnati’s West Side, though there is no indication the incidents are connected. In 2019, WCPO reported that skeletal remains found in East Price Hill were identified as Sonny Ross, a man who had been considered missing.
Authorities have not publicly identified the person found near Minion Avenue, and the investigation remains active. Additional details could emerge once the coroner’s office completes its identification work and police determine whether the remains match any missing-person case.
