A late-night gathering on the Far South Side turned deadly early Sunday when gunfire erupted on the 10400 block of South Michigan Avenue in Roseland, leaving a 24-year-old woman dead and a 20-year-old woman wounded, according to Chicago police. The shooting happened around 12:49 a.m., and Area Two detectives have opened a homicide investigation.
Police said the two women were outside with a group when someone pulled out a gun and began firing. The 24-year-old was hit several times and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead. The 20-year-old was also shot multiple times and transported to Roseland Hospital, where she was listed in good condition. Those details were reported by ABC7 Chicago.

The shooting adds to a tense stretch of violence on the Far South Side in recent weeks, including a mid-June drive-by that wounded about a dozen people and the June 29 pre-dawn killing of a CTA worker. What investigators say
Area Two detectives are handling the case and had released few additional details by mid-morning, according to ABC7 Chicago. The department did not immediately provide further comment as detectives continued to process the scene.
