Yesterday's traffic stop in Spring Valley turned into a brief chase and foot pursuit before deputies arrested two people, according to sheriff's officials. Deputies tried to pull over a car shortly after 3:30 PM near Grand Avenue and Piedmont Street. The driver kept going until the vehicle rolled to a stop near Ivanho Street and Omega Street, where both occupants bolted on foot. Deputies tracked them down a short time later and took them into custody without any reported injuries.
According to a news release from the San Diego County Sheriff's Office, deputies identified the robbery suspect as 41-year-old Bradley Queen and his companion as 32-year-old Michelle Winters. Members of the Rancho San Diego and Lemon Grove Crime Suppression Teams had already been looking for Queen when they spotted his vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. Investigators say Queen refused to yield, so the attempted stop turned into a pursuit. A sheriff's helicopter helped deputies set up a perimeter and close in on the pair.
As reported by ABC 10News, deputies saw Queen blow through several stop signs and drive on the wrong side of the road during the chase. Both occupants ran from the car at Ivanho Street and Omega Street, but their head start did not last long. Deputies found them nearby and arrested them without incident, according to the station. Queen was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of robbery, along with other alleged violations, while Winters was booked into the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility on suspicion of illegal narcotics possession.
How the chase unfolded
In its release, the Sheriff's Office said deputies first spotted the vehicle near Grand Avenue and Piedmont Street, then tried to stop it. When the driver did not pull over, deputies initiated a pursuit. The car rolled through multiple stop signs and made what officials described as dangerous maneuvers before Queen and Winters jumped out and tried to escape on foot. Deputies quickly threw up a containment perimeter while the ASTREA helicopter circled overhead. Officials noted that no one was hurt and that the arrests were made without incident, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Legal status and next steps
As reported by ABC 10News, Queen was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of robbery and several other criminal violations, and Winters was booked at Las Colinas on suspected illegal narcotics charges. Booking is only the first step in the process, not a finding of guilt. Prosecutors will review the case and decide whether to file formal charges. The Sheriff's Office included a media contact in its public release for anyone seeking additional details.
