A 49-year-old man was stabbed on the 125th Street subway platform in Harlem, police say, turning a routine Monday commute into a crime scene and kicking off a search for the attacker. The assault unfolded on the southbound No. 6 platform, where, according to investigators, a man walked up behind the victim and stabbed him in the arm before bolting from the station.
Emergency crews rushed the victim to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police later released images of the person they are looking for as they work to piece together what happened on that platform.
As reported by PIX11, the NYPD identified the victim as a 49-year-old man and said the incident occurred on June 17 on the southbound No. 6 platform. Investigators say the attacker came up from behind and stabbed him in the arm, then ran out of the station. According to police, the person of interest was last seen in a black jacket, black pants, black-and-white sneakers, a black baseball cap and carrying a black bookbag.
Police Release Images, Ask For Tips
Detectives say they have distributed surveillance photos and are now appealing directly to riders who may have been passing through the station that day. Commuters with cell phone video or any scrap of information are being urged to come forward.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact the NYPD Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS, or to text TIP577. According to NYC.gov, Crime Stoppers allows people to submit tips anonymously and offers rewards in certain cases.
