Afternoon Winds Pick Up
West winds will generally run 7 to 15 mph through the afternoon and evening, with gusts up to 24 mph on exposed shores and bridge crossings. That wind pattern should keep temperatures near seasonal averages, with low 70s in the city through next Monday and a slow climb into the low to mid 70s by next Tuesday. No measurable rain is in the cards this week.
Coastal Hazards And Boaters
A Beach Hazards Statement is in effect for Pacific-facing beaches from this morning through next Wednesday evening, as a long-period southwesterly swell from Hurricane Fausto sends in sneaker waves, strong rip currents, and breaking waves up to 10 feet. According to the National Weather Service, that swell can produce large breaking waves at south and southwest facing beaches such as Santa Cruz, Pacifica, Stinson and Ocean Beach. Small Craft Advisories and offshore Gale Warnings are posted in places, so recreational boaters are urged to skip non-essential trips and check with local harbormasters before heading out.
