An early-morning shooting in the east Las Vegas valley turned deadly Saturday, and detectives are now working to piece together what happened, according to police.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police say officers responded to the scene in the east valley where at least one person was fatally shot. Homicide detectives have taken over the case, and investigators describe the situation as an active, ongoing probe. So far, officials have not released the victim's name or any identifying details.
As reported by FOX5, Metro has declined to shed more light on the circumstances of the shooting and has not said whether anyone is in custody. The department plans to provide a briefing at a later time.
How to help investigators
Detectives are asking anyone who was in the area around the time of the shooting to come forward, especially if they have cell phone video, home surveillance clips or dash-cam footage that might have captured key moments.
Information can be submitted directly to the LVMPD Homicide Section by calling 702-828-3521 or emailing [email protected], according to LVMPD's press page. Those who prefer to stay anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
Recent east valley violence
This latest killing lands on an already tense stretch for the east valley. In recent weeks, the area has seen a string of deadly incidents, including the Craig Road strip-mall shooting and the East Las Vegas sidewalk death that neighbors fear may have been caused by a stray bullet. Both of those cases triggered full homicide responses and public appeals for tips as detectives chased down leads.
Metro says it will brief reporters when more information on Saturday's shooting is available. This story will be updated after that briefing. In the meantime, anyone with information is urged to reach out to investigators as soon as possible.
