A Thursday night dispute in southwest Miami-Dade turned fatal when gunfire broke out just after 8:40 p.m. near the intersection of SW 233rd Street and SW 132nd Avenue, authorities said. Deputies arrived to find a man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Response and investigation
Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units were dispatched after reports of shots fired in the area. They located the wounded man at the scene and transported him to the hospital, where he did not survive, according to WSVN.
Detectives are now working to piece together what led up to the shooting. Investigators say they are searching for the shooter and have not released any further information about the suspect. Details such as a possible motive, how many people were involved, or what the dispute was about have not been made public.
How to help
Authorities are urging anyone who might have seen or heard something to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously to Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers by calling 305-471-TIPS. Qualifying information may be eligible for a reward of up to $5,000, according to Crime Stoppers.
Local context
The killing adds to ongoing concerns about gun violence in southern Miami-Dade. Earlier this year, the Miami Herald reported on a separate deadly shooting in South Miami-Dade in March that also ended with the victim dying at a hospital.
Miami-Dade homicide detectives continue to seek witnesses, surveillance footage and any other evidence that might help identify whoever pulled the trigger on Thursday night. Officials are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers, and to call 911 immediately if they believe the suspect may be nearby.
