The Toronto Tempo just made their biggest move yet, acquiring forward Aneesah Morrow from the Connecticut Sun in a deadline deal that could put her in a new uniform in San Francisco as soon as Sunday. The young rebounder arrives just as Toronto tries to stop a five-game skid.
According to The Athletic, Connecticut received the rights to forward Maria Kliundikova and Toronto's 2028 second-round pick. The trade is expected to be completed within 48 hours, pending Morrow passing a physical. Morrow, selected seventh overall by Connecticut in the 2025 WNBA draft, was averaging 11.6 points, 8.9 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 20 appearances before scoring 21 points with seven rebounds in Thursday's 94-88 loss to the Chicago Sky.
Morrow has already made an impression in Toronto. During the Tempo's first-ever game in April, she led Connecticut with 19 points and seven rebounds in an 83-78 preseason win, as reported by CityNews.
San Francisco Could Be Morrow's First Tempo Stop
The timing is almost comically immediate: Toronto is scheduled to face the Golden State Valkyries at Chase Center next Sunday at 5:30 PM, according to the arena's event listing. The Athletic reported that Morrow is expected to meet the Tempo in San Francisco, although the physical still stands between the trade announcement and her official debut. Toronto currently has a 12-player roster after waiving guard Tima Pouye, so Morrow's arrival would add both frontcourt size and badly needed rebounding depth.
The deal also lands during Connecticut's final season in the state. The WNBA and NBA approved the Sun's sale to Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta in May, with the franchise scheduled to relocate to Houston after the 2026 campaign, according to the WNBA.
For Toronto, the trade is a bet on a young player whose production has often been louder than her role. For Bay Area fans, the payoff could come quickly, with Morrow potentially stepping onto the Chase Center court days after her biggest game in a Connecticut uniform.
