New Orleans police are asking for the public's help to find a man they say is wanted in an armed robbery along Tulane Avenue. Investigators identified the suspect as Troy Calhoun and said the incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. on July 12 in the 3800 block of Tulane Avenue. Calhoun is described as a Black male born Oct. 20, 1974, approximately 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighing about 180 pounds. Authorities say a warrant is on file for his arrest.
According to NOPD News, detectives say they identified Calhoun through their investigation. The department also shared images and an alert about the case on its Facebook page earlier this week, and said the warrant is now on file.
How to help
"All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty," the department said, urging anyone with information to contact NOPD First District detectives at (504) 658-6010. Those wishing to report anonymously may call Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans at (504) 822-1111 or toll-free at 1-877-903-STOP, or submit tips online at crimestoppersgno.org. The department also provided its public affairs email [email protected], according to NOPD News.
Where this fits
Tulane Avenue has been the scene of other serious violence this year, including a March shooting in the Central Business District that left one person dead and two others critically wounded, as earlier coverage of a triple shooting rocked Tulane Avenue in broad daylight shows. That incident underscored how quickly emergency crews converge on the downtown corridor and why detectives often ask for witness video.
Legal note
Police say a warrant is on file for Calhoun; an arrest does not equal guilt. Under Louisiana law, armed robbery (La. R.S. 14:64) is a felony punishable by hard labor for not less than 10 years and up to 99 years, and La. R.S. 14:64.3 provides an additional five-year enhancement when a firearm is used; see La. Rev. Stat. § 14:64.
