A Vacaville private tutor was arrested last Thursday after investigators alleged he inappropriately touched a minor student, according to the Solano County Sheriff’s Office. The man was booked into the county jail, then released after posting bail.
Deputies with the Solano County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Bureau arrested 37-year-old Jared Barton and booked him on one felony count of lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 (Pen. Code §288(a)), according to the Solano County Sheriff’s Office. The agency said Barton’s bail was set at $75,000, which he posted several hours after being booked into jail. The sheriff’s post also stresses that Barton is presumed innocent unless and until he is proven guilty in a court of law.
Booking Logs And Local Reports
Solano County releases same-day jail booking logs and runs an online inmate search tool, and recent public booking feeds list an early July arrest that lines up with the sheriff’s announcement. Local arrest aggregators likewise show a Solano County booking for a Jared Barton on a 288(a) charge, consistent with the agency’s post. The county notes that the booking logs are compiled daily and made public under the California Public Records Act.
Search Warrant Served In Vacaville
As part of the investigation, detectives served a search warrant in the 800 block of Studding Sail Street in Vacaville, according to the Solano County Sheriff’s Office. The Investigations Bureau is continuing to look into allegations that a local private tutor engaged in inappropriate touching of a minor student.
What The Charge Means
Under California law, Penal Code section 288(a) makes it a felony to willfully commit a lewd or lascivious act on a child younger than 14. Possible sentences can include time in state prison, depending on the circumstances of the case. Legal summaries note that a conviction under this statute can bring substantial penalties and long-term collateral consequences, and that outcomes turn on what prosecutors can prove at trial or what is resolved through any plea negotiations.
Investigation Ongoing
The investigation remains active, and sheriff’s officials are asking anyone with information to contact the office. County listings show the Sheriff’s public information and records units can be reached at (707) 784-7050 for tips or media inquiries.
