A late-night crash on State Route 79 near Warner Springs claimed the life of 53-year-old Vista resident Kristina Lee Rozzo, who was partly ejected from her car and pronounced dead at the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP investigators said Rozzo was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt last Thursday when she lost control for reasons that remain under investigation. The vehicle came to rest on the southbound side of SR-79 near Linton Road. As reported by The San Diego Union-Tribune, Rozzo was not wearing a seat belt and was partly ejected through the driver’s side window. Authorities said it is still unknown whether alcohol or any other substance played a role.
Crash Site On Rural Route
The collision happened along a remote, curving stretch of SR-79 south of Linton Road, a rural connector between inland North County and nearby mountain communities. That corridor has seen deadly incidents in the past, according to earlier coverage by the Times of San Diego.
Seat Belts And Ejection Risk
The CHP said Rozzo was not wearing a seat belt, a choice that significantly increases the odds of being ejected and suffering fatal injuries in a crash. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration notes that proper seat belt use sharply reduces the chances of both ejection and death in collisions, a point safety advocates often stress after tragedies like this one (NHTSA).
Investigation Ongoing
The CHP is still working to determine what caused the car to leave the roadway and has not released further details. Emergency crews responded late Thursday, and Rozzo was pronounced dead at the scene, according to local reporting.
