A weeknight drive through West Price Hill turned into a life-or-death emergency yesterday when a car carrying three children and two adults jumped the curb and smashed into a utility pole at Trenton Avenue and West Eighth Street, critically injuring a 9-year-old girl and sending all five occupants to area hospitals. Investigators say the cause of the crash is still under review.
How the Crash Unfolded
The collision happened shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday, when a 2000 Honda Civic traveling north on Trenton Avenue left the roadway and struck a utility pole at the corner of West Eighth Street, according to FOX19. First responders worked the scene while utility crews secured the damaged pole and investigators began collecting evidence along the intersection.
Who Was Hurt
The Cincinnati Police Department told The Cincinnati Enquirer that the vehicle held two adults and three children. The paper reports the 30-year-old driver and a 29-year-old woman were taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, two girls ages 13 and 8 were treated at Cincinnati Children’s, and the 9-year-old remained in critical condition.
A Dangerous Corner
West Eighth Street and Trenton Avenue have been the site of several serious crashes in recent years, including a fatal collision that drew criminal charges earlier this year, as the fatal crosswalk crash was previously reported. Residents and local advocates have repeatedly pushed for traffic calming and stronger crossing protections along that corridor.
