Two Morgan County men were arrested after investigators say a fight at a Lacey’s Spring party escalated into gunfire, grazing a 16-year-old girl. The arrests, announced Tuesday, came nearly three weeks after the July 11 shooting.
According to a post from the Morgan County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a reported shooting in Lacey’s Spring and investigators later identified two people they believed were present and involved. Warrants were obtained for both men, who were subsequently booked into the Morgan County Jail.
Two Arrests Follow Warrants In July Shooting
Levi Alexander Jeffers, 19, was arrested Thursday in Cullman, while Hunter Lee Wedgeworth, also 19, was arrested Monday in Somerville. Jeffers is charged with menacing and 10 counts of reckless endangerment; Wedgeworth faces 11 counts of reckless endangerment.
Both men were listed with $3,300 bonds. The sheriff’s office said the girl was grazed during the shooting, but the announcement did not provide additional details about the fight, the firearm or what led investigators to assign the specific counts.
What The Alabama Charges Mean
Under Alabama’s criminal code, menacing involves intentionally placing someone in fear of imminent serious physical injury and is classified as a Class B misdemeanor. Reckless endangerment involves conduct that creates a substantial risk of serious physical injury and is classified as a Class A misdemeanor, according to the Alabama attorney general’s criminal code guide.
Arrests and warrants are allegations, not convictions. Jeffers and Wedgeworth are presumed innocent unless prosecutors prove the charges in court.
