A bicycle-riding man appears to have turned a West Miami-Dade apartment complex into his personal mail stop, quietly prying into residents’ boxes and stuffing envelopes into a bag. Residents say the thefts continued for roughly three months before surveillance cameras finally captured the suspected thief in action.
Residents at Parkside of Fontainebleau reported the repeated thefts, and the apartment complex filed a report with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, according to WSVN 7News. The suspect reportedly rode into the neighborhood’s parking lot during the early morning hours before approaching the mailboxes.
Surveillance footage shows the man looking over his shoulder, apparently checking whether anyone was watching. He allegedly pried at the mailbox panel several times before opening it, removing envelopes one by one, placing them in a bag and fleeing after closing the panel.
Residents hired Henry Lorie to install the cameras after the thefts continued. Lorie described the conduct as an “invasion of residents’ privacy,” while WSVN 7News reported that anonymous informants may be eligible for a reward of up to $5,000 if their information helps solve the case.

Mail Theft Can Draw Federal Investigators
Stealing letters from a mailbox is more than a neighborhood nuisance. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service says postal inspectors investigate mail and package theft, and the agency reported nearly 9,300 arrests in mail-theft cases from 2019 through 2024.
The Fontainebleau case follows another recent Miami-Dade mail-theft investigation. In May, Hoodline reported that a Hialeah Gardens resident discovered a missing envelope containing credit-card information after reviewing home surveillance footage.
Postal inspectors advise residents to collect mail promptly, contact the sender when expected checks or cards do not arrive and report suspected theft. Residents who spot someone actively tampering with a mailbox should contact local law enforcement and the Postal Inspection Service through its mail-theft reporting system.
