An adult was found floating in a Dania Beach canal Monday morning, prompting a death investigation by the Broward Sheriff’s Office. The discovery brought deputies and a marine unit to the waterway as detectives began working to determine what happened.
According to Local 10, someone called 911 shortly after 11 a.m. to report a body near the 1400 block of Northwest Eighth Street. BSO deputies and the agency’s Marine Unit recovered the body from the canal, while Homicide Unit detectives took over the investigation.
A Preliminary Death Investigation
The victim’s identity, cause of death and circumstances leading to the discovery had not been released Monday afternoon. No suspect, motive or possible connection to another case was announced, leaving investigators with more questions than answers at this early stage.
The case follows separate recent canal-related death investigations in Dania Beach. In an earlier case, a previous Dania canal case eventually led BSO detectives to arrest a man in connection with a 2024 murder, though authorities have not indicated any link to Monday’s discovery.
