A Friday evening shooting in Bridgeton has left one man dead and another hospitalized, with police investigating a homicide at a home and assuring residents there is no active threat. The violence unfolded shortly before sunset, drawing officers to a residential block as detectives began sorting out what led to the gunfire.
Bridgeton police said officers were called to a home in the 4000 block of Avery just before 6 p.m. Two men were found suffering from gunshot wounds and taken to the hospital; one was pronounced dead, while the condition of the other was not released. The two men knew each other, according to KMOV, which first reported the investigation.
Police said there is no ongoing threat to the public, but the initial account did not identify the men or explain what led to the shooting. Another Deadly Shooting Reported In Bridgeton This Year

The city says Bridgeton’s investigations division includes six full-time detectives and a crime scene unit that processes evidence in cases including homicide.
