Chicago is waking up to a mild Saturday in the upper 60s, with a southwest breeze and mostly comfortable conditions across the city. The bigger weather story arrives later: a brief chance of showers, followed by a hotter stretch that will push temperatures toward 90 degrees next week.

Saturday should reach about 80 degrees under partly sunny skies, according to the National Weather Service. A few showers could develop late in the afternoon, but the chance remains low, and the forecast does not call for thunderstorms during the day.

Clouds will build through the afternoon, with the best chance for a stray shower after 4 p.m. Saturday night will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 71 and south winds increasing to 10 to 15 mph.

Sunday Brings A Brief Storm Chance

Sunday looks warmer and a little more unsettled, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms from the morning into midday. The high should reach 87 degrees, while southwest winds around 15 mph could gust to 25 mph, so outdoor plans may need a little flexibility.

After that, the heat takes over. Monday is forecast to reach 88, Tuesday 90 and Wednesday 89, with the National Weather Service expecting heat indexes in the mid to upper 90s around the middle of the week. That warmer turn builds on the pattern outlined in an earlier Hoodline forecast, while the latest outlook continues to show more dry hours than wet ones.
