Deerfield Beach Woman Stabbed Before Dawn, Female Suspect Charged Hours Later

A woman was found suffering from stab wounds along the 400 block of Northwest Third Avenue in Deerfield Beach early Sunday morning, and by mid-morning, deputies had a suspect in custody. The Broward Sheriff's Office says an adult female suspect was taken into custody just after 10 a.m. and has since been charged in connection with the attack.

According to the CBS News Miami report, the victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and is expected to survive, with BSO describing her wounds as non-life-threatening. The sheriff's office has not released the suspect's identity, and the investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue piecing together what led to the confrontation. Separately, WSVN 7News pinpointed the incident near the intersection of Northwest Third Avenue and West Hillsboro Boulevard, reporting that deputies were dispatched to the scene at approximately 3:45 a.m. — a stretch of northern Deerfield Beach that sits close to a major commercial and traffic corridor.

A Weekend Marked by Knife Violence Across Broward

The Deerfield Beach case follows a similar altercation just hours earlier in Lauderhill, where police detained a female suspect accused of stabbing a man multiple times during a Saturday evening dispute on Northwest 12th Court. That victim was hospitalized at Broward Health Medical Center, per WPLG Local 10's report — less than nine hours before deputies responded to the Deerfield Beach stabbing.

It also isn't the first violent knife attack to rattle Deerfield Beach this year. Hoodline previously reported on a stabbing along Northeast 1st Terrace in March that left an adult woman and a teenager hospitalized before ending in a vehicle pursuit and arrest in Pompano Beach. That case, stemming from a domestic dispute, resulted in multiple felony charges against the suspect.

Charges Could Carry Years in Prison

Florida law treats battery committed with a deadly weapon as aggravated battery, a second-degree felony under Florida Statute 784.045. A conviction can bring up to 15 years in state prison and fines as high as $10,000, according to DeMichael Law, which notes the offense is categorized as a Level 7 crime carrying mandatory minimum sentencing guidelines under the state's Criminal Punishment Code.

Given the severity of the injuries described in stabbing cases like this one, victims in northern Broward County are typically routed to Broward Health North in Deerfield Beach, a 409-bed hospital with an adult Level II trauma center and a 53-bed emergency department that treats more than 60,000 emergency patients each year, per Broward Health. The most severe trauma cases in the region are instead centralized at Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, which operates as a Level I facility with round-the-clock specialized surgical teams.

BSO's Role in Deerfield Beach Is Changing, But Not Yet

The investigation unfolds as Deerfield Beach works through a major shift in how it will be policed going forward. City commissioners voted 4-1 in January to end the city's 35-year law enforcement contract with the Broward Sheriff's Office and stand up an independent municipal police department, a move WLRN reports is projected to launch in fall 2027.

Until then, BSO retains full responsibility for law enforcement and emergency response in the city under a 24-month transition framework that runs through October 2027 while the new department's infrastructure is built, according to CBS Miami. No personnel cuts are planned at BSO during the phase-out, and the agency continues to run its District 10 station in Deerfield Beach, which handles municipal patrol, criminal investigations and traffic enforcement across the city's residential neighborhoods and commercial districts, per the City of Deerfield Beach.

That continuity matters for a city whose population has climbed to roughly 87,650 residents across 16 square miles, with growth projected to approach 90,000 by 2029, according to municipal feasibility records. The city also draws more than 4 million seasonal visitors annually, adding to the demands placed on deputies as Deerfield Beach continues its multiyear transition to independent policing.
