Four people escaped an Elgin townhouse before flames and smoke tore through the east-side home Monday night, leaving behind more than $200,000 in estimated damage. No residents or firefighters were injured.
Firefighters were called around 9:06 p.m. Monday to the 1500 block of Keystone Court, where smoke was pouring from an end unit in a six-unit townhouse complex, according to a Daily Herald report.
Crews Knocked Down The Blaze In 18 Minutes
The four occupants had already evacuated by the time Elgin firefighters arrived. Crews brought the fire under control in about 18 minutes, limiting the incident to one townhouse even as smoke spread through the home.
Cause Remains Under Investigation
The townhouse sustained extensive fire and smoke damage, with preliminary cost estimates exceeding $200,000, the Daily Herald reported. Fire investigators have not yet determined what started the blaze.
