Indianapolis is waking up to cloudy, muggy conditions Thursday, with patchy fog lingering after overnight storms and a Flood Watch still in effect through 8 a.m. The heaviest rain is expected to move south of the city by early morning, but flooded roads and low-lying areas could remain a concern.
Flood Risk Eases As Storms Move Out
Rainfall of 1 to 3 inches was possible overnight, with locally higher totals that could quickly cause flash flooding because soils remain saturated. The National Weather Service advises residents to monitor conditions and never drive through flooded roadways.
Patchy fog could reduce visibility through about 8 a.m., especially in areas that received the most rain. After that, Indianapolis should turn mostly sunny, with temperatures climbing from the upper 60s into the lower 80s and light north-northeast winds.
Mostly Quiet Weather Through Friday
Thursday night will be partly cloudy, with patchy fog returning after 3 a.m. and temperatures dipping to around 65 degrees. Friday looks much like Thursday after the morning fog lifts, with mostly sunny skies, a high near 81 and little chance of rain.
Storm Chance Returns Before A Cooler Weekend
Isolated showers could develop late Friday night, followed by a small chance of showers and thunderstorms Saturday. Saturday will be mostly sunny overall, with a high near 80, west winds occasionally gusting to 21 mph and a 20% chance of precipitation.
Any isolated storms should wind down Saturday evening, setting up a mostly clear night with a low around 62. Sunday brings the biggest change of the forecast: sunny skies, a high near 77 and a nighttime low around 58, with mostly sunny and seasonable conditions continuing into early next week.
