It remains unclear whether a suspect fled before officers arrived, and police have not said whether anyone has been identified in connection with the attack.
Both Victims Rushed to a Level I Trauma Center
Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue transported both victims to Broward Health Medical Center, a 716-bed hospital that ranks among the ten largest public healthcare systems in the country. The facility has been verified as a Level I Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons, according to the Florida Hospital News and Healthcare Report, meaning it is equipped for complex trauma cases like Wednesday's.
Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue's downtown station, the department's busiest, fields more than 1,000 emergency calls in a typical month, according to a Facebook post from the department. As of Wednesday, the conditions of both victims had not been released.
What Investigators Have Said So Far
Beyond confirming the two differing injuries, Fort Lauderdale police have released no additional information about what triggered the confrontation, and it is not known whether a vehicle or suspect has been identified. The department's investigation falls under its Operations Bureau, which oversees specialized units including Homicide and Violent Crimes, according to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department.

That charge is a second-degree felony carrying penalties of up to 15 years in prison, 15 years of probation and a $10,000 fine, per Hanlon Law. Those penalties can increase if a suspect has prior felony convictions or if a firearm is involved, though no arrest has been announced in connection with Wednesday's stabbing.
Third Overnight Stabbing Case in Fort Lauderdale Since Last Year
Wednesday's incident adds to a string of overnight stabbings that have drawn Fort Lauderdale investigators' attention in recent months.
