A 24-year-old man was shot six times outside 1040 East 219th Street in Williamsbridge, taking bullets to his legs, shoulders, stomach and neck before being rushed to a local hospital, where he is listed in stable condition. Police believe four men are behind the attack, and an investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
According to News 12 Bronx, police responded to the scene on East 219th Street on Thursday. Police sources told the outlet that three of the suspected attackers were last seen wearing all black, while a fourth was seen in a white t-shirt. No arrests had been announced as of the report, and the outlet's account is the only detailed record of the attack currently available.
The block sits within the NYPD's 47th Precinct, a command that stretches across Williamsbridge, Wakefield, Woodlawn, Baychester, Edenwald and Olinville from its station house at 4111 Laconia Avenue, according to the New York City Police Department. The shooting scene also sits two blocks east of the elevated 219th Street subway station on the IRT White Plains Road Line, a stop served by the 2 and 5 trains that carried 434,397 riders in 2024, per Wikipedia.
A Pattern of Violence Along a Few Blocks
This is not the first shooting to rattle this stretch of Williamsbridge in recent memory. Less than two weeks earlier, on August 2, a shooting at 3940 Barnes Avenue — under a mile away — wounded an 87-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man, leading to the arrest of teenage suspects, as Hoodline previously reported. And in April 2025, a 20-year-old man was killed in a daylight shooting inside a deli at 3724 Bronxwood Avenue near East 217th Street, just two blocks from Thursday's scene, according to the Norwood News.
The precinct has also seen sharper spikes in violent crime even as broader trends improved. The Norwood News reported that the 47th Precinct logged a 42.8% jump in felony assaults, from 70 to 100 reported cases, during a 28-day span in mid-2025 — the steepest increase of any of the Bronx's 12 precincts. If the man wounded Thursday required advanced trauma care, he would likely have been routed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi in nearby Morris Park, which operates the Bronx's only Level 1 Trauma Center and dedicated burn unit, per Jacobi Medical Center.
Citywide Numbers Tell a Different Story
The Williamsbridge shooting arrives against a backdrop of historically low gun violence citywide. New York City recorded 322 shooting incidents and 381 shooting victims in the first half of 2026, the lowest mid-year totals in recorded city history, with the Bronx leading all five boroughs in major crime reductions with a 12% drop, according to the New York City Police Department. What Charges Could Follow
If the four suspects are apprehended, they could face attempted murder in the second degree under New York Penal Law § 110/125.25, a Class B violent felony punishable by up to 25 years in state prison, according to legal guidance published by the Blanch Law Firm.
