Investigators were photographing various areas around the scene while crime scene investigation vans lined the property, and police had not released details about the victim's condition or what led to the shooting as of Saturday morning.
A Channel 2 Action News photographer observed a large police presence at the location, according to WSB-TV, which first reported the shooting. The Atlanta Police Department confirmed a person had been shot at the address, per its police signal reporting system, but the case remained a developing story with no arrests or suspect information announced. The station's report did not specify whether investigators believe the victim was targeted or caught in unrelated gunfire.
A Troubling Pattern at One Address
This is not the first time officers have gathered at 2380 Metropolitan Parkway SW. Just two weeks earlier, on August 6, Atlanta police responded to a gunshot victim on nearby Butner Road SW and determined a 32-year-old man had been shot in the leg near that same address, according to the Atlanta Police Department. That victim was transported to the hospital conscious and breathing.
The address has a longer history than that. In February 2025, officers responded to a late-night shooting at the same location and found a female victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, with Grady EMS transporting her for treatment, the Atlanta Police Department reported. And in July 2022, a 16-year-old girl was shot in a car near 2380 Metropolitan Parkway SW when a 19-year-old gunman opened fire into the vehicle, according to police; the victims fled to flag down officers on Northside Drive, and the teenager was hospitalized in stable condition.
From Roadside Motels to a Rebranded Corridor
The property itself carries decades of history. It once housed the Town & Country Hotel Courts, a mid-20th-century roadside motel that served interstate travelers along the highway corridor, according to Atlanta Time Machine. In January 2025, officials approved the $77.1 million Metropolitan Place project at 2333 Metropolitan Parkway, bringing 176 affordable apartment units and retail space directly across from recent shooting locations, according to Urbanize Atlanta, with roughly half the project's cost backed by tax allocation bonds.
Citywide Drop, Localized Spike
The repeated violence at this single address stands in contrast to broader citywide trends. Atlanta police reported that overall crime dropped 7% in 2025 and homicides declined citywide, but Zone 3 in Southwest Atlanta saw a 24% increase in aggravated assaults during early 2025 even as property crimes fell, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. The corridor has seen other severe violence recently as well — in April, a 17-year-old food delivery driver was shot and killed at a gas station on Metropolitan Parkway, prompting homicide investigators to pull surveillance footage. Under Georgia law, discharging a firearm and injuring another person without legal justification constitutes felony aggravated assault, which carries a sentencing range of 1 to 20 years in state prison, according to Ross & Pines, LLC. Physical contact is not required to meet that felony threshold. No charges have been announced in connection with Saturday's shooting, and it remains unclear whether investigators view 2380 Metropolitan Parkway SW as a chronic nuisance property requiring code enforcement or targeted policing attention.
