A search for a missing 49-year-old man in Schertz took a grim turn Saturday when search crews found human remains in a wooded area. Authorities have not confirmed whether the discovery is connected to the man who was reported missing earlier in July.
The Schertz Police Department received the missing-person report on July 7, then requested help from Texas Search and Rescue during Saturday’s search. Crews located the remains in Schertz, according to WOAI News 4 San Antonio.
Identity And Cause Of Death Remain Unconfirmed
Police said the identity of the remains has not been confirmed. Additional forensic testing will be used to determine who the person was and establish the cause and manner of death, leaving key questions about the case unanswered for now.
Investigators have not announced a ruling on how the person died or said that the remains belong to the missing man. Police said there is no active threat to the community, and the investigation remains ongoing, WOAI reported.
Schertz Search Brings In Specialized Rescue Team
This is not the first missing-person search in Schertz this year to involve TEXSAR. In an April release, the Schertz Police Department said the search for John “Beau” Stein also included Texas DPS, the Selma Police Department and TEXSAR before Stein was found dead in a wooded area; the Express-News later reported on that case.
Schertz police said additional information will be released as it becomes available. Until forensic testing is complete, the identity of the remains and their connection to the missing-person investigation remain unsettled.
